Courses

Compulsory Basic Training (CBT):

This foundational course is mandatory for all learner motorcyclists.

It covers essential skills such as vehicle control, road safety, and riding techniques.

Upon successful completion, riders receive a CBT certificate valid for two years, allowing them to drive on public roads with L plates.

Your First Step to Riding

CBT is the foundation of motorcycle training, but instead of just stating what it is, we can expand on what learners can expect on the day:

  • Classroom Theory: Road safety, essential riding skills, and motorbike controls.
  • Off-Road Training: Practicing in a safe environment before heading onto public roads.
  • On-Road Experience: A minimum of 2 hours riding with an instructor to ensure you’re roadworthy.
  • CBT Certificate: Once completed, you’ll receive a DL196 certificate, allowing you to ride up to 125cc (or up to 49cc if under 17)

Direct Access Scheme (DAS):

The Direct Access Scheme (DAS) is designed for riders looking to obtain a full motorcycle licence, allowing them to drive without L plates and carry passengers. The DAS training is tailored to your age and experience level, leading to either an A2 licence or a Category A licence.

A2 Licence

If you’re aged over 19, you can take the  A2  motorcycle test, which allows you to drive motorcycles with a maximum power output of 35 kW (47 bhp). You’ll train and take your test on an  A2 -compliant motorcycle. After two years, you can upgrade to a full Category  A  licence by passing another practical test.

Category  A  Licence (Aged 24+)

If you’re aged 24 or over, or if you’ve held an  A2  licence for at least two years, you can take the Category A test through the DAS route. This allows you to drive any motorcycle, with no power restrictions. Training is conducted on a large-capacity motorcycle (at least 595cc, 40 kW/53.6 bhp+), preparing you for real-world riding on bigger bikes.

Unlock the Full Motorcycle Licence

We already covered the A and A2 licence details, but we can further explain the step-by-step process:

  1. CBT Completion (if not already done)
  2. Theory Test – Before booking your full test, you must pass the motorcycle theory exam.
  3. Module 1 Test – Off-road maneuvering, figure-eights, emergency stops, and U-turns.
  4. Module 2 Test – On-road riding, dealing with real traffic situations.
  5. Licence Granted! Ride with no restrictions based on the category you qualify for.

What is the CBT, and Do You Need It?

The Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) is the starting point for most new riders. This one-day course ensures you have the essential skills to ride safely. Once completed, you’ll receive a DL196 certificate, which allows you to ride:

  • A moped (up to 49cc)
  • A 125cc motorcycle at 17+ (with L plates, no passengers or motorways)

💡 If you want to ride a more powerful bike, you’ll need to progress to the A2 or A licence through DAS training.

Why Choose Us for Your Motorcycle Training?

What our students and parents say

Very accommodating, unfortunately I had to reschedule my CBT renewal, however Lee and Rosie was able to come in on a day off and offer me 1-2-1 training. The CBT was a breeze thanks to Lee, he’s very relaxed and patient and would always check if I needed to go over anything again, very calm and tidy environment with plenty of refreshments and snacks through the day. For new riders or renewals I would 100% recommend.

Today, I had my CBT, and my excellent instructor, Martin, made all the difference. I can’t thank him enough for his patience and clear instructions—they were exactly what I needed.

The weather was not ideal—cold and snowing—but Martin guided me through it, and I did well.

I’m truly grateful, Martin—you are amazing!

I did the CBT course for a 50cc moped scooter. The day overall was absolutely brilliant they made sure I knew everything there was to know before I even sat on the scooter. The practical exercises we simple but very effective and the instructor gave helpful tips and pointes out things I did wrong that I didn’t even notice myself. The final road ride at the end was very fun and prepared me for after the course and the instructor would give a detailed explanation of what happened and what to improve on. The instructor kept the day fun but serious and made the entire day a joyfully experience.

Missus and I, complete novices haven’t even ridden a pushbike before, took the test with Lee. Couldn’t recommend Lee more, he’s patient, has a calm demeanour and gives great tips and advice. He somehow managed to build our skills and confidence up in a short space of time. The whole experience was amazing and we actually managed to have some fun! Keep up the good work!
