Driving Instructor Career
What qualifications do I need to become a driving instructor?
You’ll need a full UK driving licence (held for at least 3 years), be at least 21 years old, and pass the DVSA Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) tests. If you’re not qualified yet, we offer training!
But also as a driving instructor, you’ll need an excellent understanding of the Highway Code to teach learners effectively and ensure safe driving practices.
Do I need previous teaching experience?
No! Many of our best instructors came from completely different careers. We provide full training and ongoing support.
Can I work part-time?
Yes! We offer flexible working arrangements, so you can choose your own hours.
What support do you offer your instructors?
We take care of marketing, student bookings, and admin so you can focus on teaching. Optionally we offer providing a car and the fuel costs. Plus, our friendly team is always available for advice.

What’s the difference between an employed instructor and a franchised instructor?
- Employed Instructor: Fixed salary, company car, and no upfront costs.
- Self-Employed Instructor: More flexibility, higher earning potential, and you manage your own schedule. Optionally company car.

Do I need my own car?
It depends! If you’re employed, we provide a fully maintained dual-control car. If you’re franchised, you can use your own car or lease one through us.
Would I be bound to a franchise model?
It’s actually not a franchise model. For the services we offer, we take a percentage of your earnings to cover company costs, marketing, organization and optionally a car and fuel.
How much can I earn?
Earnings vary based on hours worked and whether you’re employed or self-employed. On average, our driving instructors earn £30,000 – £50,000+ per year. As a CBT Instructor, it also depends on how much you work and how many requests we have.
Instructor Training
How long does it take to qualify as a driving instructor?
It varies, but typically between 6-12 months, depending on your availability and progress through the three ADI tests.
Can I train while still working another job?
Yes! Our instructor training is designed to fit around your schedule, so you can train at your own pace.
What’s the cost of training to become an ADI?
Prices vary, but we offer affordable payment plans and financial support options to help spread the cost.

Do I have to find my own students?
No! We handle student bookings and provide a steady flow of learners.
Can I choose where I work?
Yes! We allocate students based on your location and preferences.
What are the busiest times for lessons?
Evenings and weekends are most in demand, but you can set your own schedule. Especially as a CBT Instructor, Saturdays are very common.
What happens if I need time off?
You have full control over your schedule, whether you need time off for holidays or personal reasons.
